ANSI/RIA 1999 R15.06 was the standard for all robot safety until 2007, when the new international standards were adopted for "New robots" only. Section 1.3.2 of the 1999 standard states: Robots which are rebuilt or re-deployed shall comply with the standard in effect on the date of original manufacture. This does not preclude the addition of safety enhancements of this standard. Rebuilt robots are those which are overhauled and repaired to their original condition and manufacturer’s original or current specifications for that model robot including software changes. This includes overhaul and repair, reconditioning, refurbishment, or restoration. Redeployed robots are those which are physically moved and only with changes to the task program and end-effector. |
ANSI/RIA/ISO 10218-1-2007 is the adoption of the International Standard ISO 10218-1:2006 as an American National Standard. This new standard provides safety guidance for the robot only. The 1999 American National Standard for robot safety – ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999 covers not only the robot, but the complete robot system, including installation, safety equipment, integrators, and users. The new ISO standard does not replace the R15.06 standard, but does enhance the safety features addressed in clause 4 of R15.06 regarding new robots. Furthermore, the R15.206 approves new innovations in robotics that are compliant with the International Standard. Adoption of new international standards should make robot safety universally consistent. |
KC Robotics employs the full standards set forth in the 1999 R15.06 for reconditioning, integration, safety, and installation of its robots.
